Heritage education needs to be an integral part of education. In LA students should read and write stories, listen to and make videos etc. about their local heritage, our Alberta Heritage and in Social Studies they need to study local history and Alberta history as it relates to topics being studied. Multiple perspectives need to be accommodated not just Aboriginal and Francophone but German, Ukrainian, Chinese, Arabic etc. Provide alternate assignments so students can study their own heritage as well as the heritage of others. Move away from the generic global text book and global media to our Alberta and local heritage.
